Bespoke books

The book that tells your brand's story.

Vision, values, identity: SMK Éditions writes and makes the book in which a brand says what it is, with the evidence to show it.

Who it is for

Brands that have something to say and want to say it in a way that is not advertising: a house passing to a new generation, a company repositioning itself, a brand opening up to a new market, a group that wants to bring its teams together around one story.

02

What the book contains

What makes the brand, shown rather than claimed. The origins and the choices that mattered. The products, places and gestures, photographed for the book. The voices of the people who make it: founders, teams, craftspeople, customers. Writing and design that reflect the brand, without turning the book into a brochure.

03

How we work

Everything starts with a framing document: what the brand wants to say, to whom, and for what use (gift, launch, recruitment, retail). Then the interviews, research, photographic campaign, writing and design, each approved by you before the next. The art direction draws on your visual identity without being confined by it.

04

Timeline and budget

At least five months, longer if the photographic campaign needs several seasons or several countries. The book can be bilingual from the outset. Around the book, when it makes sense: an exhibition, short videos, an edition for your customers.

The budget is quoted once the project has been framed. It depends on the format, the number of pages, the imagery to be produced and the print run. We always propose two options, so that the decision rests on figures rather than impressions.

05

What you keep

The rights to the texts, photographs and illustrations produced for the book are assigned to you by contract, with the permitted uses specified. The sorted archives, recorded interviews and documented imagery stay with you, and can be reused in other media.

Frequently asked questions

How is it different from a brochure?

A brochure is read once. An art book is kept, leafed through, given. It tells rather than sells: facts, faces, images made for it.

Can the book be sold in bookshops?

Yes, if it has readers beyond the brand. It can be published by Adansonia, in the La Vie des Marques collection, and join its catalogue.

Will our brand guidelines be respected?

Yes. The book uses your colours, typefaces or visual codes when they serve the story; the art direction adapts them to the book format, which is neither a website nor a poster.

Is your company turning 25, 50 or 100?

An anniversary book is prepared twelve to eighteen months before the date. Tell us the year and we will tell you what is still possible.
