A house of books.
Patient work.
SMK Éditions is an independent house based in Casablanca. It brings together an editorial team and a network of authors, photographers, illustrators and designers, from here and elsewhere.

Why this house
We wanted a house that makes art books as close as possible to their subject: with the archives, the people who remember and local artists, and production overseen from layout to printing.
SMK Éditions is the house. Adansonia is its publishing imprint, Ateliers Baobab its space for workshops and training. One team, one standard, from framing to binding.
With authors, artists and illustrators
A book is not made alone. Around each project, we gather those who will carry it: the author who holds the story, the photographer who goes to see for themselves, the illustrator who gives a face to the texts, the designer who sets the rhythm of the pages, the printer who chooses the paper with us.
We go and find them where they are. We look at their work, we talk about it at length, and we make room for them: on the cover, in the book, and in what we say about the book once it is out.
What interests us is a way of seeing and a craft. The rest, the method, the schedule, the production, we build together, book after book.

We read everything we are sent. What to send, to whom, and what happens next: it all fits on one page.
Work with usWhat matters to us
- Real-life stories. Interviews, archives, fieldwork. We don't make things up. We go and look.
- Print runs that fit. No overproduction: each print run is sized for how it will be used.
- Printers we choose. Printers we know, in Morocco and in Europe, and production overseen through to the press check.
- Books that last. Papers, bindings and finishes chosen to last, not to impress on launch day.
