We read everything we are sent. To speed things up, each type of request has its own address and its own list of what to attach.
A manuscript
- What to send. A one-page synopsis, the first ten pages and, for an illustrated or photographic book, three to five images.
- Format. A single PDF, sent by e-mail to manuscrit@smkeditions.com. The form on this site is for letting us know; the attachment goes by e-mail.
- What we publish. Art books and illustrated books: heritage, culture, gastronomy, stories and journeys, chronicles. No fiction without illustration, no technical essays.
- Timing. An acknowledgement, then a considered answer within six weeks.
- Confidentiality. Your text is read only by the editorial committee and is never passed on.
- What happens next. If the project is right for us, a meeting, then a written contract before any work begins.
Illustration, photography

Our books are made with illustrators and photographers. You can propose a book project, or show us your work for books to come. When a book is made with you, everything is put in writing: what is done, by whom, for what use.
- What to send. A portfolio as a PDF or a link to your site, ten images at most, your city, your techniques.
- What we are looking for. Hand-drawn illustration (ink, watercolour, duotone), documentary and heritage photography, food photography.
- Timing. An acknowledgement. We keep portfolios and get back to you when a book is a good fit.
Freelancers
Graphic designers, layout artists, proofreaders, translators, picture researchers: we work with freelancers, project by project.
- What to send. A one-page CV, three book or publication credits, your rates.
- Timing. An acknowledgement. No salaried positions open at the moment.
